~ news and upcoming events ~

This page will show news and events relating to Douglas-Apsley.
Some of the information comes from a database.

Fire alert! Last summer saw arsonist wildfires devastate areas and property to the north of the Park. In part as a reaction to this event, State authorities have seen fit to undertake "fuel reduction burns" in the Park in September 2007.
Park entry during this period will be restricted. Unfortunate consequences of this burning culture is the encouragement of fire-prone/promoting vegetation species, and the degrading of aesthetic values.

Snake alert! The early warm weather has brought out the snakes early this year - active since September - so remember to wear gaiters, keep an eye out and allow snakes to move away: keep your distance and never annoy them, stomp on the ground and they will wake up and move away from you in time.

Bad news 2006: the owners of large blocks of open farmland on the approach to the Apsley waterhole have ploughed up their prime farming production land in preparation for woodchip plantations, so the pleasant views will become obliterated by monoculture tree farms in future years.

This is a relatively new National Park, with immature infrastructure, facilities and initial planning is still in progress.
